Teams arrive at camp – Rally organizers impose time penalty
Liaison: 876 km
Special stage: canceled
Change of direction at the Transsyberia Rally 2008 powered by Sony Ericsson: After the past days were characterized by Siberia’s endless expanses, the teams headed in southward direction into the Altai Mountains today.
No evaluation test took place during the 7th stage. The 876 km offered scenic charm: The route led from the gently sloping foothills of the Altai Mountains through its high passes to Kosh Agash. Here, the teams of the Transsyberia Rally 2008 powered by Sony Ericsson spent their first night outside in the camp.
Tomorrow the border crossing from Russia to Mongolia is pending, which, above all, demands patience on behalf of the teams and organizers. The scarcely 300 km transfer to Olgyi should be completed by the evening.
Even without the special stage, changes in the overall standings occurred today: The rally organizers imposed a 30 minute time penalty each on the Teams Germany 1 and Germany 3 for failing to comply with the start time for the valuation test during the 6th stage. With that, Team Germany 3 (Lars Kern/Daniel van Kan) slips down to 4th place. Germany 1 (Armin Schwarz/Andreas Schulz) remains in 5th place, inspite of the time penalty. The results for the 6th special stage remain unchanged.
